Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Done in by Herkimer

For the second time this season, the Onondaga Community College softball team was unable to solve nationally-ranked Herkimer County Community College as the Lazers fell in both ends of a doubleheader in Herkimer.

With the losses, Onondaga has its five-game winning streak snapped and is now 27-15 on the season while Herkimer, which ranks second overall in the latest NJCAA national poll, moves to 30-7.

Game One: Onondaga 1, Herkimer 9

The Lazers were unable to generate much offense against the Generals' starting pitcher as Onondaga was no-hit for the second time this season, but still managed to push a run across in the third inning after a Herkimer error allowed Elizabeth Riegler to score after drawing a walk earlier in the frame.

Four runs in the third inning would prove to be enough for the Generals before runs in the late innings sealed the win.

Brittney Sears was saddled with her sixth loss of the season (13-6) after throwing 5.2 innings and allowing nine runs.

Game Two: Onondaga 5, Herkimer 15

Onondaga fell behind early after the Generals plated seven runs in the first two innings before the Lazers scored two runs in the third inning thanks to RBI knocks by Chantel Hammond and Sears.

Herkimer would put the game out of reach in the fourth with five runs after five hits including a two-run homerun to earn the 10-run win.

Elizabeth Jackson (9-8) was credited with the loss after allowing a season-high 18 hits and 15 runs.

The Lazers will conclude their regular season at 1 p.m. against Genesee Community College in a Regional doubleheader in Batavia.
