Softball Ends Regular Season at Genesee

The Onondaga Community College softball team concluded its regular season schedule with a pair of losses to the Genesee Community College Cougars on Sunday in Batavia.

Onondaga ends the 2015 regular season campaign with an overall mark of 27-17 while the Cougars finish the day at 23-9.

Game One: Onondaga 3, Genesee 5

After plating a run in each of the first two innings, Onondaga would give two back to Genesee in the third inning.

The Lazers would take a one-run lead in the fourth when Lea Newman doubled home Sarah Bregg who had singled earlier in the inning to make it 3-2 in favor of the visitors.

The lead would be short-lived, however, as Genesee would plate three runs in the sixth inning after a pair of Lazers' errors gave the Cougars a 5-3 lead which held through the final out.

Samantha Moon led the Lazers with three hits including a triple while Brittney Sears collected two hits including an RBI-double.

Sears was also the pitcher of record after going six innings and allowing five runs.  The sophomore moved to 13-7 on the year with the loss.

Game Two: Onondaga 7, Genesee 10

Trailing 10-3 in the sixth inning, the Lazers would cut their deficit in half after scoring four runs on two hits with Whitney Smith, Chantel Hammond, Sears each being credited with an RBI in the frame.

The Lazers would put a runner on in the seventh when Smith walked, but was unable to drive her in as the Cougars held on for the win.

Elizabeth Jackson moved to 9-9 on the year after throwing seven innings and allowing 10 runs (two earned).

As a team, the Lazers committed a season-high seven errors in the game.

The Lazers will return to play at 4 p.m. on Tuesday against Hudson Valley in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 NJCAA Region III Softball Championship.
