Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lazers Within One Win of History - Winning Streak now at 96

The nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College men's lacrosse team moved to within one win of tying the all-time NJCAA mark for consecutive wins across all sports on Monday as the top-ranked Lazers earned their 96th consecutive victory with a 28-4 win over SUNY Broome at David W. Murphy Field.

The No. 1 Lazers will look to tie the long-standing NJCAA record of 97 consecutive wins at 12 p.m. on Saturday as Onondaga hosts Bridgton Academy.

The Lazers came out of the gates firing, scoring five goals in a span of four minutes with Parrish Young, Matt Bennett, Nick Sawyer, Kyle Killen and Seth Leonard each netting unassisted goals to give Onondaga a 5-0 advantage.

After Young notched his second goal of the game on a feed from Sawyer, SUNY Broome would answer with two quick shots, the second of which found its mark to make it 6-1 in favor of the Lazers.

Two more goals by Onondaga in a span of 16 seconds would stake the home team to an 8-1 hold but the Hornets would stick around with a man-up tally to pull the visitors to within six goals.

Leonard would spark a four-goal run for the Lazers that included a first for Oakley Thomas as the sophomore defenseman notched his first goal of the season to put Onondaga up 12-2.

Broome's third goal would come at the 12:27 mark of the second quarter, however, the Hornets would not find the back of the net again for nearly 40 minutes of play as the Lazers' defense forced 18 turnovers in the final three quarters of play while holding Broome to only eight shots.

The Lazers kept rolling on the offensive end of the field and seemed to score at will after putting up three goals in a span of 29 seconds to close out the first half with a 22-3 lead.
The Lazers held the ball for much of the second half, scoring six unanswered goals before the final horn singled another Onondaga win.

18 different players put their names in the scorebook for Onondaga with Leonard leading the way with five points on four goals and an assist.  Brine Rice finished with four points on a pair of goals and two assists while Bennett also added four points in the win.  Sean Lattimore continued to make plays for the Lazers and contributed three goals from attack.  Max Bosworth and Jesse Ondrako chipped in with a pair of goals and one assist apiece.

Holden McDonald earned the win in net for Onondaga (7-0) despite not making any stops.  Jack Sweeney and Sean Rhodes each played a quarter in goal and combined to turn away four shots.

Sam Watts earned 13 wins at X in 15 chances while Seth DeLisle was 7-of-8 on the day.  Zach Lohman and Doug Jamieson each won four draws.
