Here are some game notes to tide you over until first draw:

Top-Three Talent: This weekend's Region III Championship boasts some talented teams as the top three seeds are also the nation's top three ranked teams.  Monroe holds down the top ranking while Onondaga and Jefferson rank second and third, respectively.  Collectively, the three teams have posted a 33-3 record this season.

The Plan is Simple - Score More Goals: And no one has done that more than Onondaga this season.  Entering the weekend, the Lazers boast the top scoring offense in the nation with 269 goals scored in 13 games, which is 31 more than the next closest team.  Onondaga features three players that rank in the top 16 in the nation in goals scored including Makenzie Annable who ranks third overall with 52 goals.  Jordan Osborne ranks fifth with 48 while Cheyenne Burnam ranks 16th with 34 tallies.

So They Can Score but What About Defense?: The Lazers defense has been equally impressive this season as Onondaga has held its opponents to only 83 goals collectively.  The Lazers have held their adversaries to three goals or fewer seven times this season including one shutout.  Onondaga is known for creating problems for opposing offenses in the way the Lazers swarm the ball.  Onondaga ranks eighth in the nation with 88 caused turnovers.  Look for the Lazers defensive corps to pressure the ball at all times.

In-Between the Pipes: Onondaga features a talented 1-2 punch in goal as Sophia Wojnovich and Gretchen Krzykowski have combined to produce a 6.60 goals against average, which ranks third nationally.  Wojnovich ranks 10th overall in the NJCAA with 67 saves while Krzykowski ranks third overall in the country with a .622 save percentage.

History Tends to Repeat Itself: Not to foreshadow, but it's worth noting that the Lazers have won the NJCAA National Championship every three years since 2009.  Onondaga captured its first national title in 2009 and would repeat the feat in 2012.  If history holds true, perhaps 2015 is their year.

Scouting Monroe: It's no secret the Tribunes are good.  Monroe has been the nation's top ranked team for the entire season and boasts a perfect 11-0 record.  Entering this weekend, the Tribunes have won 46 straight games and have five players that have scored 30 points or more led by Michelle Schwartz's 66 points.  Monroe has won the last four Region III titles and last lost to Onondaga in the 2012 National Championship.

Scouting Jefferson: The Cannoneers enter play having suffered only two losses the entire season after falling to Monroe and Onondaga earlier in the year.  Jefferson also features a potent 1-2 punch on the offensive end of the field.  Katie Brierton and Mackenzie Kidder are both capable of taking over the game as the pair ranks first and second, respectively, in the nation in scoring this season after combining to net 120 goals in 12 games.

Scouting Mohawk Valley: The Hawks are definitely a surprise this season after failing to post a win in 10 chances just a season ago.  Mohawk Valley enters the Region III Championship ranked seventh in the nation with 175 goals scored and leads the country in shots, groundballs, caused turnovers while ranking third in draw controls.  The Hawks spread the wealth offensively with five players totaling 30 points or more led by Nicole Jones who has contributed 55 points this season.
