Women's Lacrosse Joins WCLA Under New Leadership

Onondaga is excited to announce the transition of the Women's Lacrosse program to the Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA), hosted by USA Lacrosse. The college will now sponsor Women's Lacrosse as a club sport beginning this (2024-25) academic year after the NJCAA officially discontinued the sport due to the cancelation of several programs.

Women's Lacrosse has been an NJCAA sponsored sport since 2004 with the championship recently being changed to an invitational in the 2022-23 academic year. Onondaga took home this past year's Invitational title to cap off their undefeated season defeating Monroe Community College 19-4. The program earned its' very first National Championship in 2009 defeating the Tribunes 9-7 and another in 2012 defeating the Tribunes again 6-5. The program has 6 Region III Championships and 3 Conference Championships. The program has produced dozens of All-Americans, All-Region, and All-Conference selections.

With the move of former Women's Head Coach, Erik Mattox, transitioning to the men's program, Onondaga is proud to announce the newest head of the program, Amanda Drazek. Drazek spent the last year assisting Mattox with the program. Amanda served as our Volunteer Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach in 23-24 and was a big part of our program's undefeated championship season. Amanda played lacrosse at Cazenovia College where she earned a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in Management, specializing in accounting. She also minored in sports management and coaching. She was also recently hired by the College as the full-time Assistant Controller in Financial Services.

"Amanda selflessly gave her free time and energy to support our students and team. She is eager for the opportunity to lead our women's program and I'm confident she will continue to build on the tradition and success of our program." Athletic Director, Mike Borsz

Erik Mattox will also continue to support the women's lacrosse program for the 24-25 academic year as an Assistant Coach/Program Advisor as he continues to honor the commitments he made to the women's lacrosse students. That commitment and guidance will be needed as our women's lacrosse program transitions from the NJCAA to a Division I member of USA Lacrosse's Women's Club Lacrosse Association (WCLA).

"Amanda was a four-year captain for me. There's no one who knows my program better than she does and I'm so excited to see her take it and run with it." Erik Mattox

"This is an incredible opportunity that I get to share my passion of lacrosse with the next generation. I am excited to embark on this journey with such a talented group of girls, and to build on the foundation that Erik created. I am eager to continue to be a part of this strong team and school culture while fostering growth and development. In the future, I strive to achieve the same level of success with each group of players on the field and in the classroom. I look forward to creating lasting memories with each student athlete on and off the field. I would like to thank Erik for being my mentor since I was a freshman in college. He has taught me so much about the game and I could not ask for a better role model and lifelong friend." Amanda Drazek
