Top-Ranked Lazers to Defend Region III Crown After Downing Herkimer

Sean Lattimore scored a game-high seven points as the top-ranked Onondaga Community College men's lacrosse team bullied ninth-ranked Herkimer County Community College, 27-1, in the semifinals of the 2015 NJCAA Region III Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday at David W. Murphy Field.

With the win, Onondaga extends its own NJCAA record for consecutive victories across all sports and divisions with its 102nd straight victory, while Herkimer's season comes to an end with the Generals holding a 9-4 overall mark.

Onondaga will look to defend its Region III crown at 1 p.m. on Sunday when it faces the winner of the afternoon's other semifinal pairing between Dean College and Fourth-ranked Genesee Community College.  The winner will advance to the NJCAA National Championship tournament, which will be played May 9-10 in Baltimore, Md.

The Lazers didn't waste any time building a lead as Tom Koster scored the game's first goal just 54 seconds in on a feed from Matt Bennett.

Onondaga would score 10 more time in the game's opening quarter with Lattimore notching three goals in that span including a man-up and man-down tally.

Head coach Chuck Wilbur's squad would continue to push the tempo after netting 11 more goals in the second period including a stretch of three goals in a span of 36 seconds.

Herkimer would add its only goal of the game at 10:30 of the third quarter, but would yield five more goals over the remainder of the game as Onondaga cruised to the win, 27-1.

Bennett drove the Lazers' high-powered offense all game with five assists to go along with one goal while Nicholas Garbarino finished with a pair of goals and three helpers of his own. 
Brine Rice and Koster each added a hat trick in the win.  Kyle Killen and defenseman, Tyson Bell, each finished with two tallies.  Dalton Wenzel and Tyler Griffo each contributed a goal and one assist for Onondaga while Sean Ohlhaver, Nick Sawyer, Justin Hussey, Seth Leonard, Nathan Maracle, Alex Waelder and Jesse Ondrako each found the back of the net once.

Holden McDonald earned the win for the Lazers after coming up with five saves in 30 minutes of play.  Sean Rhodes and Jack Sweeney also saw time between the pipes and combined to make five stops.

The Lazers were able to blitz Herkimer's back line all game as Sam Watts, Doug Jamieson, Zach Lohman and Seth DeLisle combined to go 26-for-31 from X.

The Lazers forced Herkimer into 24 total turnovers and surrendered only 10 clears the entire game.
