The Onondaga Community College baseball team snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves after taking both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday at the Baseball Complex.
With the wins, Onondaga improves to 16-14 on the year while the Thunderwolves fall to 16-8.
Game One: Niagara County 0, Onondaga 10Onondaga would strike first in the second inning plating a pair of runs on two hits with
John Larca smacking an RBI-single to left that scored
Paul Fitzgibbons from second to make it 2-0.
The Lazers would chase Niagara County's starting pitcher in the bottom of the fourth after scoring four more runs on four hits. Onondaga led off the frame with a walk and proceeded to line four consecutive hits including a two-run double by Larca to take a 6-0 lead before the Thunderwolves could get back into their dugout.
Onondaga would load the bases in the fifth inning after leading off the inning with three straight walks. The runners wouldn't remain on base for long as the next batter, Larca, laced his second RBI-double of the game to clear the bases and give the home team a 9-0 lead.
Ricky Ortiz followed suit and lined a base hit to right-center that advanced Larca home to give Onondaga the 10-0 win.
As a team, the Lazers pounded out 10 hits with
Justin Mathers and
Avery Brooks each collecting an RBI apiece.
Nate Boughton earned the win and moved to 5-3 on the season after tossing the complete-game shutout. Boughton allowed three singles in the game and struck out three.
Game Two: Niagara County 5, Onondaga 6Niagara County opened the scoring in the nightcap with an RBI-double in the top of the first, but would give two back in the bottom half of the inning after a two-out error allowed two Onondaga runs to cross home plate.
Onondaga's lead wouldn't last through the next inning as Niagara County would put four runs on the board thanks to two hits and three walks to bring the score to 5-2.
Trailing by three in the second inning, Onondaga would put together a four-run rally of its own started by a two-run triple by Larca. The next batter, Brooks, replaced Larca on base with an RBI-single and would score two batters later when
Dylan Nardocci lifted an RBI double to left to give the Lazers a one-run lead, 6-5.
 With the Lazers clinging to a one run lead, Niagara would have the tying run on base, but Onondaga would induce two quick groundouts to hold on for the win and the sweep.
Chad Warren earned the win on the hill for Onondaga after going 5.1 innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits.Â
Luke Drancsak earned the save for the Lazers.
The Lazers will enjoy an off day on Wednesday before battling the Thunderwolves again beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday with a Region III doubleheader in Sanborn.
