Baseball Takes Two From Ithaca JV

The Onondaga Community College baseball team scored 25 combined runs as the Lazers swept Ithaca College's JV team on Thursday at the Baseball Complex.

With the wins, Onondaga improves to 5-7 overall.  It was the Lazers' first sweep of the season.

Game One: Onondaga 15, Ithaca JV 2

After surrendering three runs in the first inning, Ithaca would get on the board in the second inning after a pair of wild pitches handed the Bombers two free bases allowing the runner to advance home to make it 3-1.

Ricky Ortiz would lead off the third inning with a double to left field and scored the Lazers' fourth run when Dylan Nardocci clubbed a stand-up triple.  One batter later, Nardocci would give Onondaga a 5-0 lead as Brandon Kapcinski pulled a two-base hit down the left field line to stake the Lazers to a four-run advantage.  The inning would continue when Ithaca's pitcher threw the ball away trying to make a play at first allowing Kapcinski to score.

With the bases chucked, John Larca would draw a walk to give Onondaga a 7-1 lead before the Bombers could stop the bleeding.

After a scoreless fourth, Onondaga would erupt for five runs in the fifth inning on five hits including two-run singles from Larca and Ortiz to give the Lazers a commanding 12-1 lead.

The scoring would continue in the seventh when Onondaga collected three more runs on five hits with Larca and Ortiz each picking up two more RBI in the inning.

Boughton picked up his second win of the season (2-2) after going five innings and allowing only one run on one hit while striking out six.  Boughton has now tallied 27 strikeouts in his last 16 innings of work.

Game Two: Onondaga 10, Ithaca JV 5

Onondaga would once again get on the board early, this time plating two runs on two hits and one big error in the first inning.

The Lazers would add another run in the third when Larca led off with a single to left and came around to score on an RBI-double by Avery Brooks.

Onondaga added another three runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-0 lead after putting three more hits in the books as Larca, Brooks and Eric Thompson each picked up an RBI.

Ithaca would finally get on the board in the sixth inning with four runs after smacking back-to-back two-run knocks but Luke Dracsak would come in out of the pen and preserved the lead for the Lazers, 6-4.

The Lazers would get all of the runs back in the seventh inning after Thompson drew a walk with the bases loaded followed by a run scored on a wild pitch and a two-run single Larca to make it 10-4 in Onondaga's favor.

Reynaldo Hernandez earned the win for Onondaga to move to 2-0 after holding the bombers scoreless on just four hits.  The southpaw recorded six strikeouts in the win.

The Lazers will make their way east for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday against the Monroe Community College tribunes in Rochester.
