Lazers Lose Two in Corning

The Onondaga Community College baseball team was on the wrong end of a walk-off win on Thursday as the Lazers surrendered five runs in the seventh inning to fall to Corning Community College in both games of a conference doubleheader in Corning.

Onondaga, which had earned a walk-off win in a series sweep against the Red barons on Tuesday, falls to 11-13 overall and 6-4 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference standings while Corning improves to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Game One: Onondaga 0, Corning 4

Nate Boughton took the hill for Onondaga in game one and was saddled with the loss as the Lazers were unable to provide the freshman pitcher with any run support.

Game Two: Onondaga 8, Corning 9

In the nightcap, Onondaga led for much of the contest and held an 8-4 lead heading into the bottom of seventh when Corning exploded for five runs including the walk-off hit to take the game and the series.

Earlier in the contest, Onondaga has scored five runs in three hits after sending nine batters to the plate.  The Lazers were helped by three Corning errors in the frame.

Corning would get two runs back in the bottom of the second, but allowed the Lazers to plate two more in the fourth to give the visitors a 7-2 lead heading to the fifth.

The Lazers would need only three outs to record a win, but it was not to be as the Red Barons sent eight hitters to bat in the inning, which yielded five runs including the game-winner.

Onondaga will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Jamestown for a four-game weekend series.
