The top-ranked Onondaga Community College men's lacrosse team extend its own NJCAA record for consecutive wins with its 99th straight victory after downing nationally-ranked Herkimer County Community College, 27-5, on Wednesday in Herkimer.
Â
With the win, the No. 1 Lazers improve to 12-0 while the No. 7 Generals slide to 7-2 overall.
Â
Onondaga will look for its 100th consecutive victory at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it takes on the Monroe Community College Tribunes in Rochester.
Â
The game was all but over in the first quarter after the Lazers jumped out to a big lead before the Generals could blink. Onondaga netted 12 first frame tallies en route to a 17-goal lead, 19-2, at halftime.
Â
Herkimer would contain the Lazers' high-powered offense in the third quarter, however, still failed to close the gap as the visiting Lazers notched five goals in the third frame and three in the fourth to nail down the win.
Â
Entering the day, the Generals ranked fourth in goals scored per game (17.29), but would be unable to crack Onondaga's defensive corps as the Lazers' defense smothered the Generals' attack at nearly every possession.
Â
16 different players had their names etched into the scorebook for Onondaga led by
Kyle Killen's five points on three goals and a pair of assists.Â
Matt Bennett, the reigning Region III Male Athlete of the Week, finished with four points as did

Â
As has been the case the entire season, the Lazers controlled the face-off game throughout.Â
