The Onondaga Community College baseball team dropped three games of a four-game set against the Erie Community College Kats over the weekend. The Lazers are now 9-11 on the season.
Onondaga will look to right the ship at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when it opens up Mid-State Athletic Conference play against the Corning Community College Red Barons at the Baseball Complex.
Game One: Erie 5, Onondaga 0The Kats scored two runs in the first inning after drawing three walks and never looked back, plating a run in the fourth and two more in the seventh.
Chad Warren took the loss for Onondaga after tossing five innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits.
Game Two: Erie 2, Onondaga 7 Erie would get on the board first after scoring one run in the top of the first, the the Lazers responded with two runs in the home half of the frame on two hits including an RBI-single from
Ricky Ortiz that knocked in
Avery Brooks who had doubled earlier in the inning.
The Kats would tie the game in the third inning only to see Onondaga send nine batters to the dish in the bottom of the third that lead to five runs after the Lazers connected with four hits including RBI hits from
John Larca,
Brandon Kapcinski and
Paul Fitzgibbons.
Nate Boughton went the distance for Onondaga and gave up two runs to secure his fourth win of the season.
Game Three: Onondaga 4, Erie 8Five errors would doom the Lazers as Erie would capitalize on the mistakes with four runs in the first two innings.
Onondaga would get two back, however, in the third inning when
Ricky Ortiz launched the Lazers' first homerun of the season scoring Brooks in the process.
Erie responded with a run in the fourth before Onondaga could repay the favor with two in the fifth.
The damage had been done, though as Erie plated two more runs on three singles and a walk in the sixth to earn the win.
Game Four: Onondaga 3, Erie 5As had been the case throughout the series, Erie jumped on the board first, plating two runs in the first inning before the Lazers could get one back in the single after
Nate Budge smacked an RBI-single.
The Kats would plate one in the third and were set up to have a big inning in the fourth after loading the bases with no outs, but the Lazers would escape the inning with only one run being credited to the home team after forcing two runs at home.
Larca would knock in Brooks in the fifth, but the Lazers would fall short as Erie scored another run in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead.
Larca found a rhythm at the plate, going 4-for-4 in the loss while
Ricky Ortiz made his debut on the pitching mound. Ortiz went four innings and allowed four runs.
