21 different players tallied a point as the nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College men's lacrosse team won its 90th consecutive game on Monday. The Lazers poured in a season-high 33 goals en route to a 33-1 win over visiting Finger Lakes Community College at David W. Murphy Field.
Onondaga, the nation's top-ranked team, moves to 3-0 with the win and 1-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference standings while Finger Lakes dips to 0-1 overall. In three games to start the season, the Lazers have outscored their competition 85-7.
After taking a 2-0 lead early on in the opening quarter on unassisted goals from
Sean Ohlhaver and
Max Bosworth, Finger Lakes would score its only goal of the contest at the 3:53 mark of the opening frame to halve the deficit.
The Lazers held a 4-1 advantage at the end of the first 15 minutes of play after
Matt Bennett connected with
Brine Rice for a final second goal.
Onondaga would dominate for the remainder of the game, scoring 15 goals in the second quarter alone including a span of four goals in under two minutes to hold a commanding 18-1 lead at the break.
The top-ranked Lazers would continue to find the back of the net in the third quarter, scoring just 50 seconds into the second half when
Chandler Allen dodged his way down field for his third goal of the season to spark an eight-goal period.
In the final quarter, Onondaga would net two extra-man opportunities and scored seven more goals to earn the 33-1 win.
Joseph Ondrako led all scorers with a career-high four goals and finished with five points in all.
Sean Lattimore tallied three goals and three assists in the win while
Nicholas Garbarino and Ohlhaver each added three goals and an assist. Rice continued to rack up numbers and collected a pair of goals and four helpers while also notching six shots.
Adam Bomberry hauled in a game-high 11 groundballs while
Tyson Bell accounted for eight in all.
Sam Watts was nearly unbeatable at the faceoff X, winning 11-of-13 opportunities and
Doug Jamieson came away with nine wins in 10 tries.
Holden McDonald earned his second consecutive win after making four saves in net while
Jack Sweeney collected three stops in 15 minutes of time.
As a team, Onondaga ripped 94 shots and pushed Finger Lakes into 44 turnovers. The Lazers also controlled the turf, scooping up 79 of the game's 108 total groundballs.
Onondaga will return to action at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon for its next bout against nationally-ranked Harford Community College at Murphy Field.
