The top-ranked Onondaga Community College men's lacrosse team moved one step closer to breaking the all-time NJCAA record for consecutive wins (97) after posting its 92nd straight win on Saturday after defeating nationally-ranked CCBC-Essex, 11-6, in Bel Air, MD. The game, which was originally scheduled to played at Essex, was moved to nearby Harford Community College due to unplayable field conditions.
With the win, Onondaga remains perfect at 5-0 while the third-ranked Knights suffer their first loss of the season and move to 5-1 overall.
The contest was Onondaga's most closely contested of the season as the five-goal difference was nearly 20 goals under Onondaga's average margin of victory (24.75).
Brine Rice led the way for the Lazers with four points on three goals and one assist while
Sean Ohlhaver and
Adam Bomberry each scored two goals.
Seth Leonard had two helpers in the win as did defenseman,
Tyson Bell.
Kyle Killen finished with two points on a goal and an assist.
Matt Bennett and
Nicholas Garbarino had one goal apiece.
Sam Watts ignited Onondaga's fast break all game after winning 15-of-20 faceoffs.
Holden McDonald was a wall in between the pipes as the freshman goalkeeper had a career-high 23 saves.
The No. 1 Lazers will continue their chase for history at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will face fourth-ranked Genesee Community College in Batavia. The game marks the second of a four-game road trip.
