Lazers Fall to Patrick Henry

The Onondaga Community College baseball team came up short at Patrick Henry Community College on Thursday, 15-4, despite outhitting the Pioneers in Martinsville, VA.  With the loss, Onondaga falls to 0-4 on the season.

The Pioneers would jump out to an early two-run lead in the first inning after belting two hits to go along with two walks and a hit batter.

The Lazers would halve the deficit in the top of the third inning when John Larca reached base on a two-out single and moved to third after a passed ball and a balk.  Avery Brooks would bring him home with an RBI-single through the left side to make it 2-1 in favor of Patrick Henry.

The damage would be done in the home half of the third as Patrick Henry sent 10 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on six hits, two walks and four wild pitches to bring the score to 10-1.

The home team would add another run in the fourth before Onondaga would score two runs in the top of the fifth on a double from Ricky Ortiz that scored Larka and Brooks.

The Lazers would get another run in the late innings, but could not overcome some costly errors as the Pioneers cruised to a 15-4 win.

Larca provided a bright spot at the top of the order for Onondaga after going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.  Brooks had a pair of singles while Brandon Kapcinski, Dylan Nardocci, Alex Chapman, Ortiz and Nate Budge also collected a base hit in the loss.

The Lazers used five pitchers in all with Alexander Way taking the loss after going 2.1 innings and giving up six runs.

Onondaga will have its conference and home-opener at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts Jefferson Community College in a doubleheader at the Baseball Complex.
