The Onondaga Community Baseball team dropped both ends of a twin billing on Tuesday as the Lazers fell to Wake Technical Community College, 7-2, 6-3, in Raleigh, N.C.
With the losses, the Lazers move to 0-3 while Wake Technical improves to 14-2 overall.
Game One: Onondaga 2, Wake Tech. 7The Lazers would score first in the second when
Drew Mallinder cracked a double and would later come around to score on an Eagles' error.
Onondaga would lead 2-1 through five innings after plating another run on another Wake Tech error, but would surrender five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lazers had plenty of opportunities in the final innings, but stranded eight men on base.
Nate Boughton took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Ricky Ortiz,
Dylan Nardocci,
Brandon Kapcinski and Malinder each connected for a single.
Game Two: Onondaga 3, Wake Tech. 6 Onondaga would load the bases in the first inning after a lead-off double from
Eric Thompson followed by
Avery Brooks being hit by a pitch and Nardocci earning a walk. The Lazers would plate two runs with Kapcinski and
Austin Bush each lining RBI-singles, but the Eagles would record a big strikeout to end the inning with the bases left loaded.
Wake Tech would send eight batters to the dish in the fourth inning leading to three runs on three hits before the Lazers would answer with a run in the sixth to make it 3-3 as
Ricky Ortiz's sacrifice fly drove in
Nate Budge who had doubled earlier in the inning and advanced to third on a bunt single by
Avery Brooks.
The bottom of the sixth mirrored the fourth inning for the Eagles as Wake Tech once again sent eight men to the plate and scored three runs to take a 6-3 lead into the seventh.
The Lazers were poised to tie the game or take the lead as they loaded the bases in the final frame, but all three runs were left on base as Onondaga fell despite outhitting the Eagles, 11-7.
Onondaga will look to right the ship at noon on Thursday when it takes on Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsburg, VA. The Lazers opened their season with a 7-6 loss to the patriots on Monday.
