The Onondaga Community College softball team bounced back from a late-inning loss to Delaware Technical Community College, 3-2, to earn a 7-2 win against College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday as the Lazers compete in the Snowbird Classic in Myrtle Beach. S.C., With the split, Onondaga evens its season record at 2-2.
Game One: Onondaga 2, Delaware Technical, 3After a scoreless first inning, Delaware Technical would connect on back-to-back hits in the bottom of the second to claim a 1-0 lead.
The Lazers would quickly erase the deficit in the third inning with two runs of their own as
Sarah Bregg roped an inside-the-park homerun that scored
Jess Rodriguez who had had singled and advanced to third on an Delaware Technical error earlier in the frame.
Both pitchers settled down as the game wore on until Delaware Technical would score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on two hits and a Lazers' error to escape with the 3-2 win.
Elizabeth Jackson threw six innings of work and allowed six hits and three runs (two earned) but was saddled with the loss.
Game Two: College of Southern Maryland 2, Onondaga 7Brittney Sears hurled a complete game gem to pick up her first win of the season after limiting Southern Maryland to only two runs on four hits while recording a season-high 10 strikeouts.
The Lazers fell behind 2-0 after the first inning of play, but bounced back quickly, plating runs in each of the final four innings including three in the fifth on two hits.
Bregg had another strong game at the dish going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Rodriguez,
Lea Newman,
Samantha Moon and
Chantel Hammond each batted a run in for the Lazers.
Onondaga will look to build on its momentum on Wednesday with contests against Rochester Technical Community College and Lackawanna College.
