Nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's basketball won its 11th straight game and 79th consecutive conference decision on Saturday as the Lazers held Jefferson Community College to a season-low 36 points en route to a 66-36 win in Allyn Hall.
The win moves the No. 4 Lazers to 21-4 overall and 9-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference standings while Jefferson has its six-game winning streak snapped with the loss and moves to 15-6 on the season and 8-1 in conference play.
After battling back-and-forth for much of the first half, the Lazers began to pull away after using a 15-4 over the final seven minutes to hold a 29-13 lead at the halftime break.
The Lazers carried the momentum into the second half in a big way, orchestrating a 12-2 run over first six minutes of the second frame to hold a 26-point edge, 41-15.
The Cannoneers would cut the deficit to 20 points, but that was as close as they would come after a 17-4 scoring burst from the Lazers, including 12 points in the paint, would open up a 33-point lead for the home team.
Melissa Bakowski and
Brittany Anderson led Onondaga with 19 points apiece while
Kumba Marong recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds and
Samantha Roberts led all players with 10 assists.
Overall, the Lazers were 28-of-56 from the floor while holding the Cannoneers to a season-low 26.9 percent from the field.Â
Onondaga will return to play at 5 p.m. on Wednesday when it travels to Dryden to battle the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers in a Mid-State Athletic Conference tilt.
