Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Parkmond’s Double-Double Leads Onondaga Past Jefferson

Lloyd Parkmond's 26 points and 18 rebounds powered the Onondaga Community College men's basketball team to a 76-59 home win on Saturday over Mid-State Athletic Conference rival Jefferson Community College at Allyn Hall.

With the win, the Lazers extend their winning streak to five games and move to 15-10 overall and 7-2 in MSAC play. Jefferson now drops to 4-18 overall and 2-7 in conference competition.

Onondaga has managed to beat opponents by an average of 14.2 points per game during its five-game winning streak that started back on January 24 with an 82-70 home victory over Cayuga.

Tied at 29 points apiece with 1:31 remaining in the first half, the Lazers managed to go on a 6-0 run capped off by a Joeseph Piazza 3-pointer with four seconds remaining. Onondaga would take a 35-29 lead in to intermission and wouldn't look back.

The Cannoneers came out strong early in the second half, cutting the Lazers lead to just one point at the 15:31 mark. Onondaga would respond with another Joe Piazza 3-pointer followed by a Parkmond layup on the next two possessions. The two buckets kicked off a 12-0 run by Onondaga.

The Lazers would eventually use 41 second-half points to rout Jefferson 76-59, completing the season sweep of the Cannoneers.

This wasn't the first time that Parkmond had his way with Jefferson this season as he posted 25 points and 14 rebounds in the two teams' first meeting on January 15 in Watertown. This time, he posted a career-high 18 rebounds while eclipsing the 20 point scoring mark for the eighth time this season. After posting his seventh double-double of the season, the sophomore now averages a team-leading 16.9 points per game and nine rebounds per game.

Piazza was instrumental for the Lazers as he hit three 3-pointers helping him finish with 11 points. The sophomore has now scored in double figured 11 times this season.
Michael Scott and Kameron DiSanto each finished with eight points for Onondaga while Scott secured eight rebounds on the day.

The Lazers will look to push their winning-streak to six games at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when they take on MSAC opponent Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden.
