The Onondaga Community College men's basketball team saw its five game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night when it fell to Tompkins Cortland Community College, 91-80, in Dryden.
With the loss, the Lazers fall to 15-11 on the season and 7-3 in Mid-State Athletic Conference action while the Panthers improve to 9-14 overall and 4-7 in MSAC competition. Onondaga has cloinched a spot in the upcoming MSAC Championship.
Onondaga got off to a slow start as Tompkins Cortland was able to jump out to a 13-0 lead early in the first half. The Lazers never truly got their feet under them as they weren't able to draw even with the Panthers the entire game.
A late game surge, however, would put Onondaga within five points of Tompkins Cortland with one minute remaining in the contest. Despite the push, the Lazers were unable to come any closer and ultimately lost by 11 points.
Just as he has most of the season,
Lloyd Parkmond continued to be Onondaga's go-to scorer. The sophomore led the Lazers with a game-high 26 points on 9-of-19 shooting. On the season, he is now averaging a team-leading 17.3 points per game.
For the third time in the last four Lazer games,
Michael Scott managed to post a double-double. The Chittenango native's 12 points and 11 rebounds marked his sixth double-double of the season.
Trevor Smith and
Zachary Perry also chipped in for Onondaga on the offensive end as they shot a combined 5-for-8 from the field, contributing eight points each.
The Lazers will look to rebound at 3 p.m. on Saturday against nationally-ranked Finger Lakes Community College in MSAC action at Allyn Hall.
