For the sixth consecutive season the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship was claimed by the nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's basketball team after the top-seeded Lazers downed the second-seeded Jefferson Community College Cannoneers, 62-42, on Saturday in Allyn Hall Gymnasium.
With the win, Onondaga, ranked No. 3 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association's national poll, completes the perfect conference schedule at 14-0 and moves to 26-4 overall while the Cannoneers fall to 18-7 on the year and 11-3 in the final MSAC standings.

Onondaga found itself in rare territory over the game's first few minutes as the Cannoneers owned the advantage, 5-2, but a quick 6-0 run by the Lazers capped by a 3-pointer from
Samantha Roberts would put Onondaga back on top, 8-7.
Playing out of a 2-3 zone for much of the first half, the Lazers frustrated Jefferson's offense, blocking seven shots while forcing the Cannoneers into 12 first half turnovers.
Onondaga would capitalize on the mistakes, building a lead on the strength of a 22-5 run that featured a two three-pointers apiece from
Brittany Anderson and Roberts to give the top-seeded Lazers a 32-15 lead.
Jefferson's 3-point shooting kept them in the game as the visitors tallied 12 of their 19 first half points from downtown.
The Lazers would build a 21-point lead in the second half before a 10-3 run from the Cannoneers would cut the deficit to 14 points, 49-35.
Onondaga would take the wind out of Jefferson's sails with 4:05 still showing on the clock when
Brittany Anderson connected on her four trey of the game to give Onondaga a big lead, 56-37.
Alyssa Crosby, the MSAC Player of the year, would try to shift the momentum back in favor of the Cannoneers after a layup but the lead was too great as Onondaga earned its third win over Jefferson this season, 62-42.

Anderson, who was named the Championship's Most Valuable Player, scored a team-high 17 points to go along with a career-best 10 rebounds.Â
Kumba Marong collected her 12th double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds while
Alisia Griffin finished with 13 points and three steals.Â
Samantha Roberts fueled the Lazers' offense with five assists along with netting 11 points and
Melissa Bakowski added seven points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Onondaga will return to action on Friday when it looks to continue its season in the Region III Championship. The Lazers secured the top overall seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region III Championship and will face No. 8 seed Schenectady County Comminuty College at 1 p.m. in the SRC Arena and Events Center.
