The Onondaga women's basketball team will open the 2015-2016 campaign this Thursday evening with a non-conference road game at Genesee Community College.  Tip-off is at 7 pm in Batavia.  The Lazers are coming off of a 28-5 season in 2014-2015, which saw them capture the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship and advance to the NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Game.

Expectations are equally high this season, as Onondaga was ranked #5 in the NJCAA Division III pre-season poll.  Center Kumba Marong, guard Samantha Roberts, and forward Melissa Bakowski are expected to lead the Lazers.  Marong averaged 10.1 points and 10.7 rebounds per game in her freshman season last year, and was an All-MSAC selection.  Roberts averaged 9.6 points and 7.0 assists, while Bakowski averaged 9.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest.  Freshman guard Hope DeFazio heads up a strong freshman class and is expected to make an immediate impact.

After Thursday's game, the Lazers will return home to host the 2015 Onondaga Community College Classic this Saturday and Sunday.  The Lazers are the defending Classic champions, and will face Dutchess Community College in the tournament opener at 1:00 pm in the SRC Arena & Events Center.  SUNY Sullivan and Northampton Community College will square off in the second semi-final at 3:00 pm.  Saturday's two winners will meet for the Classic championship Sunday at noon, also in SRC, while Saturday's two losing teams will meet at 11:45 am on Sunday in the consolation game in Allyn Hall.
