The Onondaga Community College women's basketball team won its seventh consecutive game after overwhelming Finger Lakes Community College, 87-46, on Wednesday night in a Mid-State Athletic Conference game from Putt Moore Court in Canandaigua.
Â
Wit the win, Onondaga moves to 17-4 overall and remains unbeaten in MSAC play at 5-0 while the Lakers move to 1-5 in the conference standings and 4-14 overall.
Â
The Lazers had their foot on the gas from the get-go, jumping out to a 13-4 lead after reeling off 11 of the half's first 13 points.
Â
The momentum would shift midway through the period, however, as the Lakers responded with a run of their own, using a 9-4 spurt to cut Onondaga's lead to three points, 16-13, with 9:48 left to play in the opening stanza.
Â
That would be the closest Finger Lakes would come as Onondaga proceeded to put the game out of reach using a 21-5 run over the next several minutes to grasp a 37-18 edge with 6:45 still showing on the game clock.
Â
The lead would balloon to 24 points late in the frame before the Lakers were able to put together a modest 7-2 run to bring it to 55-33 at intermission.
Â
Onondaga would put the game out of reach early in the second half after building a 21-2 run including 14 unanswered tallies to take a 75-37 lead.
Â
The Lazers would lead by as many as 45 points in the contest after shooting 32-of-73 (.438) as a team for the game. The Lazers accounted for 13 steals and held the Lakers to only 18 made field goals in 40 minutes of play.
Â
Alisia Griffin scored a game-high 20 points in the win on 8-of-9 shooting to go along with nine rebounds including six on the offensive end.Â
Kumba Marong collected her seventh double-double of the season and sixth in the last seven games with 11 points and 11 rebounds while
Brittany Anderson added 13 points for Onondaga.Â
Samantha Roberts tallied a game-high nine assists and
Melissa Bakowski had 10 points.
Â
Onondaga will look to make it eight wins in a row at 3 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Cayuga Community College in a conference contest in the SRC Arena and Events Center. Fans in attendance could win an opportunity to shoot for $5,000!
