Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Improves to 3-1 in Conference Play With Win Over Tompkins Cortland

Four players scored in double figures as the Onondaga Community College men's basketball team moved to 3-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference standings on Saturday after dropping Tompkins Cortland Community College, 75-65, in the SRC Arena and Events Center.

Onondaga moves to 10-8 on the season while the Panthers slip to 5-10 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.

As a team the Lazers shot 45 percent from the floor (29-for-64) while connecting on eight rom behind the arc.

Kyle Kline posted a game-high 21 points including five from distance while Lloyd Parkmond nailed down his sixth double with 18 points and a game-high 14 boards.  Joseph Piazza added three 3-pointers of his own and finished with 12 points and Michael Scott contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.  Trevor Smith filled the box score for Onondaga after notching four points, four rebounds and a game-high seven assists.

The Lazers looked sharp in the game's opening minutes, building an 11-2 run after connecting on five of their eight shots.

The Panthers would scratch their way back into the contest as Tompkins Cortland would capitalize on four Onondaga turnovers to take their first lead of the game, 19-18.

Piazza would reclaim the advantage for the home team, 23-21, at 6:22 when Kline found the Central Square native in the corner for one of Onondaga's four first half 3-pointers.

On their next possession, Kline extended the Lazers lead to five points with a trey of his own, but as they had the entire game, the Panthers were up to the task and chipped away at Onondaga's lead.

The Lazers would create some space in the half's final minute when Scott and Smith connected on consecutive baskets to give Onondaga an eight-point edge at intermission, 37-29.

Onondaga continued to pour it on as the second half got underway, scoring six unanswered points to stretch the lead to 14 points before the Panthers would get on the board.

Both teams would exchange possessions over the next several minutes before the Lazers used another run, this time scoring eight straight points, to make it 53-39 with 13:27 still showing on the game clock.

The visiting Panthers cut the deficit to six points, but the Lazers proved to be too much on the offensive end of the court leading to a 75-65 final score.

The Lazers will return to the fold at 2 p.m. on Monday when they step out of conference play to host the Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks in the SRC Arena.  Fans in attendance could win a chance to shoot for $5,000 during halftime.
