The Onondaga Community College men's basketball team used a strong second half for the second consecutive game to earn an 82-73 road win over Jefferson Community College in conference play.
With the win, the Lazers improve to 9-8 overall and 2-1 in Mid-State Athletic Conference play. Jefferson now drops to 3-12 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
Onondaga was able to keep pace with the Cannoneers throughout first half play and trailed by only one point at intermission. Despite the small deficit, the Lazers were held to just 30 points in the half.
The Lazers would pull away early in the second half however, outscoring the Cannoneers 32-15 over the first 11:33 of the half. They did not look back from there and ultimately came away with the nine point victory after a 52-point second half.
Sophomore
Lloyd Parkmond led the way for Onondaga by contributing his fifth double-double of the season after posting a game-high 24 points to go along with 14 boards. The Rome native leads the team in scoring on the season with 17.1 points per game.
Aiding the Lazers offensive efforts was guard
Joseph Piazza. The sophomore was able to connect on three 3-pointers leading to his 11 points in the contest. Onondaga also received significant contributions in the post from forward
Michael Scott and center
Colyn Hanley who had 13 and 10 points respectively.
The Lazers aim to extend their win streak to three games as they head home at 1 p.m. on Saturday to take on MSAC opponent Tompkins Cortland Community College at the SRC Arena & Events Center.
