Head coach
Andrew Killian recorded his 200th career win on Saturday as the Onondaga Community College volleyball went 2-1 as the Lazers hosted five other teams from Region III in the Onondaga POD.
Killian becomes just the second coach in Onondaga volleyball history to reach the 200 win plateau, joining Hy Bryant who posted 564 wins during his 11-year tenure. To Date, Killian boasts a 200-172 record at Onondaga.
MATCH ONE: Onondaga 3, Mohawk Valley 0: 25-16, 25-10, 25-15In the opening match, the Lazers earned a straight-set victory over the visiting Hawks. After cruising to a 25-16 win in the first set, the Lazers opened up a large lead in the second thanks in large part to 11-1 run spurned by three aces from
Sydney Burritt as Onondaga posted a 25-10 win.
Jessica Cost led the way for Onondaga with 24 assists to go along with five kills, six digs and two aces while Burritt posted a team-high 10 kills and four aces.
Melissa Krak had eight kills in the win and
Isabella Winklestine nailed down six kills.
Leslie Santos led all players with 10 digs.
MATCH TWO: Onondaga 2, Fulton-Montgomery 3: 25-20, 28-26, 19-25, 18-25, 5-15After taking the first two sets including a 28-26 win in the second, the Lazers found themselves playing from behind for the remainder of the match.
Onondaga would tie things up in the fourth frame, 10-10 before the Raiders rattled off nine of the next 10 points en route to the win.
Krak had a team-high 13 kills and nine digs while Burritt clubbed 11 kills in the five-set thriller. Santos posted a new career-high with 25 digs and Cost tallied 40 helpers.
Allison Massara nearly notched a double-double with eight kills and 11 digs.
MATCH THREE: Onondaga 3, Herkimer 0: 25-10, 25-20, 25-18Against the Generals, Onondaga got off to a quick start, posting a convincing win in the first set, however the momentum wouldn't last as Herkimer claimed a 19-14 lead before
Meaghan O'Toole staked Onondaga to a 20-19 lead after three straight service aces.
The Generals would counter, but Onondaga would score the set's final five points to hold on for the win.
Cost capped her impressive afternoon with 23 helpers and six kills while Winklestine posted 10 kills and two digs in the win.
Najah Amica had three kills in two sets and
Rachel Zoanetti accounted for three aces and four digs for Onondaga.
The Lazers will return to the court at 6 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to Auburn to take on the Cayuga Community College Spartans in an Mid-State Athletic Conference contest.
