The Onondaga Community College volleyball team won its 15th match of the season on Wednesday after holding on for a five-set victory against the Cayuga Community College Spartans in Auburn.
The win pushes the Lazers' season mark to 15-7 as Onondaga remains unbeaten in Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) play with five wins.
After falling in the first frame, 25-21, the Lazers jumped out to a large advantage in the second set en route to a decisive 25-12 win, but the Spartans would bounce back, stealing the third set by two points, 25-23.
Onondaga would notch another double-digit win in the fourth set, 25-15, setting up a fifth and deciding set in the process.
After exchanging points for much of the final set, the Lazers were able to distance themselves before ultimately nailing down the 15th and final point for the win.
Leading the way for Onondaga was
Jessica Cost with 28 assists to go along with eight digs while
Isabella Winklestine contributed nine kills, four digs and two blocks in the win.Â
Melissa Krak notched 18 digs and five kills and
Allison Massara chipped in with 13 digs and five kills as well.Â
Sydney Burritt tallied seven kills and
Leslie Santos had 18 digs.
Onondaga will make its return to the hardwood at 9 a.m. on Saturday when the Lazers battle Hudson Valley, SUNY Adirondack and Columbia-Greene as part of the Hudson Valley POD Match in Troy.
