Lazer lacrosse team defeats Genesee CC to advance to regional final

Box Score The Onondaga Community College men's lacrosse team defeated Genesee Community College, 18-6, in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region III semi-final on Saturday afternoon at Tompkins Cortland Community College.  With the win the Lazers advance to the regional championship game, Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm, also at Tompkins Cortland.  Onondaga will face SUNY Delhi, a 9-5 winner over Monroe Community College in Saturday's other semi-final.  The Lazers defeated the Broncos, 25-7, in the season opener back on Fevruary 28th.

Logan Thomas, Vaughn Harris and Kenny Tomeno scored three goals apiece for the Lazers on Saturday. Harris also had two assists.  Nicholas Garbarino, Tim Barber, and Wayne Hill each scored two goals, and Barber dished out four assists.  Warren Hill and Jason Ketchoyian combined for 14 saves in the win.

By advancing to the regional championship game both Onondaga and Delhi have secured berth in the NJCAA Championship Tournament.  6 teams qualify for the national tournament, with the top two seeds receiving quarter-final byes.  Two quarter-finals will be played next Saturday, May 3rd, on the home fields of the higher seeds.  The two quarter-final winners will join the top two seeds in the semi-finals on Saturday, May 10th.  The semis, along with the National Championship Game on May 11th, will be hosted by Nassau Community College in Garden City, NY.  Complete National Tournament seedings and pairings will be announced by Monday.
