Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lazers Return to Dominant Form With 97-22 Win Over Clinton

The nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's basketball team halted its two-game losing streak on Sunday after powering past the Clinton Community College Cougars, 97-22, in a Region III matchup at Onondaga's Allyn Hall Gymnasium.

The No. 3 Lazers improve to 9-2 with the win, while Clinton remains winless on the season at 0-11.

It was all Onondaga from the get-go as the Lazers orchestrated a 20-0 run before the Cougars could stop the bleeding with their first basket in over six minutes of action.

The high-powered Lazers' offense continued to fire on all cylinders for the remainder of the stanza highlighted by 18 unanswered points to close out the first half of play with a 49-6 advantage.

In the second half, back-to-back fast break layups from Melissa Bakowski and Samantha Roberts would spark a 25-0 run to extend Onondaga's lead to 74-6 with 13:31 showing on the game clock.

It would be nearly eight minutes before the Cougars could get on the board, but it did little to slow Onondaga's momentum as the Lazers would continue to roll en route to the 97-22 win.

13 players scored at least one pint for Onondaga in the win led by Autumn Gavin's 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting.  Emiko Powell and Brittany Anderson each tallied 12 points while Kumba Marong secured her first-career double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.  Imperio Cesar and Bakowski collected 10 points and five rebounds apiece and Roberts dished out a game-high nine assists.

As a team, the Lazers held Clinton to only seven made field goals all game (14.7%) while shooting nearly 57% from the field.  Onondaga's defense forced the Cougars into 31 turnovers.

The Lazers will play again at 3 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Herkimer to battle the Generals in regional play.
