The nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's basketball team had its eight-game winning streak snapped on Thursday night as the No. 3 Lazers fell on the road to Monroe Community College, 93-54. The Tribunes, who play a the Division II level, are ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA DII national poll.
With the loss, Onondaga moves to 8-1 on the year, while the Tribunes move to 6-1 on the year.
After swapping the lead throughout the game's opening minutes, the Lazers would take a two-point lead when
Brittany Anderson buried a 3-pointer to make it 15-13, but Monroe would use a 17-0 run over the next eight minutes and never trailed again in the contest.
The Lazers would cut the deficit to 16 points in the second half, but the Tribunes would use another run, this time scoring 24 of the next 27 points to create more separation en route to the win.
Alisia Griffin posted 11 points along with 10 rebounds. Freshman
Kumba Marong also added 11 points for Onondaga while
Emiko Powell tallied nine points and three assists.
Melissa Bakowski chipped in with seven points, five boards and four assists and Anderson drained two from beyond the arc to finish with six points in all.
The Lazers will look to start a new winning streak beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday when they host North Country Community College in Allyn Hall. The Athletics Department will be holding its first-annual Holiday Food Drive on Saturday with anyone donating receiving free admission to Saturday's game.
