The nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's basketball pushed its winning streak to five games on Sunday after handing Hudson Valley Community College its first loss of the season, 73-44, in a Region III matchup in Troy.
The No. 4 Lazers move to 5-0 on the season with the win, while the Vikings slide to 3-1 overall.
Both teams battled for momentum as the first half wore on, but the Lazers would hold an 11-point lead, 33-22, as both teams headed into the locker rooms for halftime.
Onondaga would prove to be the aggressor in the second half extending its lead to 20 points courtesy of an 8-0 run.
Hudson Valley would do its best to climb back into the game, but it was not to be as Onondaga cruised to the win.
Alisia Griffin scored 16 points and hauled in six boards in the win while
Emiko Powell also had 16 points to go along with four assists.Â
Melissa Bakowski had 11 rebounds for the Lazers as well.Â
Samantha Roberts tallied four points, nine helpers, five rebounds and five steals overall.
Onondaga's bench played strong led by
Autumn Gavin 's 10 points including two from beyond the arc.Â
Kumba Marong also played well, notching eight points, 12 rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots.
Onondaga's defense was on display as well, holding one of Region III's top scorers to 16 points - well below her season average of 31 points per game.
The Lazers will return to action at 5 p.m. on Thursday and will host Schenectady Community College in Allyn Hall Gymnasium.
