The nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's basketball team flexed its muscle on Saturday as the Lazers picked up their first road win of the season after downing SUNY Adirondack, 79-47, in a Region III matchup in Queensbury.
With the win, the No. 4 Lazers improve to 4-0 for the second consecutive season while the Timberwolves slip to 1-1 on the young season.
After falling behind in the opening minutes of Saturday's contest, 6-2, the Lazers found their groove in a big way, scoring 23 unanswered points to claim a 25-6 lead.
The Timberwolves would slowly climb out of the hole to trail 40-22 at the half, but Onondaga would control the pace throughout the final 20 minutes of action en route to a 79-47 win.
Melissa Bakowski led all scorers with 23 points while the freshman forward also pulled down nine rebounds.Â
Sabina Kadic tallied 11 points and five boards for the Lazers while
Alisia Griffin, the reigning NJCAA Region III Female Athlete of the Week, chipped in with nine points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.Â
Brittany Anderson continued to show veteran leadership and led Onondaga with a team-high eight assists and four steals.Â
Samantha Roberts notched eight points, six assists and two steals and freshman
Kumba Marong contributed six points and eight boards.
The Lazers will return to the court seeking their fifth straight win at 12 p.m. on Sunday and will face Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
