The Onondaga Community College men's basketball team held SUNY ESF to only 20 points in the second half as the Lazers erupted for a convincing 85-56 win on Wednesday night in front of a packed Allyn Hall Gymnasium.

After both teams buried a 3-pointer on their opening possessions, neither was able to settle into a rhythm as the score would hold at 3-3 for nearly six minutes of play.

The Mighty Oaks would bury another from beyond the arc and took a four point lead, 14-10, but it wouldn't hold as the Lazers stormed back with a 9-0 run fueled by Kameron DiSanto who notched seven straight points for Onondaga.

As the half wore on, both teams continued to apply pressure.  The Mighty Oaks chipped away at the Lazers' lead with a 14-6 run to close out the half as Onondaga led, 38-36.

The second half belonged to Onondaga from the get-go as the Lazers poured in seven unanswered points and 14 of the next 16 to extend the lead to 50-38, forcing the visitors to call a timeout to try and slow Onondaga's momentum.

Coming out of the break in action, the Mighty Oaks were poised to eat into Onondaga's lead, cutting the deficit to eight points, but back-to-back baskets by Patrick Twiss and Michael Scott killed any chance of a late-game comeback.

Onondaga took over in the final 11 minutes of action; outscoring SUNY ESF 24-8 in that span including 14-1 run bookended by layups from Lloyd Parkmond and Zachary Perry, respectively.

As a team, the Lazers scored 32 points in the paint and collected 53 rebounds.  Onondaga was equally impressive on the defensive end of the court, forcing the Mighty Oaks into 24 turnovers while limiting them to only 30 percent shooting from the field.

DiSanto finished the game with 19 points and eight rebounds while Parkmond come on strong in the second half to end with 15 points, nine rebounds and two assists on 6-of-9 shooting.  Joseph Piazza had seven points in the win.

Onondaga's bench played a significant role, scoring a season-high 57 points led by Michael Scott's nine points and six boards while Perry tallied eight points and six rebounds.  Thomas Towner had five points and four boards and Trayshaun Hymes contributed a team-high three steals.

The Lazers will look to make it four wins in a row at 3 p.m. on Saturday when they visit SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury.
