The Onondaga Community College men's basketball team overcame an eight-point deficit late in the second half to earn a come-from-behind win, 92-86, against the Schenectady County Community College Royals on Wednesday night in Allyn Hall Gymnasium.
The Lazers improve to 4-2 on the season while Schenectady slides to 0-2 with the loss.
After leading throughout the contest, including a two-point lead at the half, 44-42, the Lazers watched their lead disappear courtesy of a 7-2 Royals' run to start the second period.
Despite cutting the lead to a single point after a
Colyn Hanley basket in the paint, Onondaga wasn't able to reclaim the lead as the Royals continued to halt the Lazers' advance with timely basket after timely basket.Â
Onondaga would come close at the 12:36 mark, cutting the visitors lead to 57-55, but the Royals would open up their largest lead of the contest, using an 8-2 run to take an eight-point lead, 65-57.
The Lazers would respond with a run of their own, however, erasing Schenectady's lead after reeling off eight unanswered points to tie the game at 65 points apiece, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Schenectady would slow Onondaga's momentum and stake the visitors to a four-point lead.
As the half continued, neither team would give an inch as the final nine minutes featured five ties and five lead changes before the Lazers would take the lead for good after putting together another 8-0 run highlighted by five points from forward
Michael Scott.
The Royals would try to mount a comeback, slicing Onondaga's lead to one with 1:23 left before
Patrick Twiss stepped in a drew a charge that turned the tide back in Onondaga's favor.
Onondaga would seal the win at the free throw line, scoring the game's final five points.
Two players tallied a double-double in the win including
Lloyd Parkmond who scored a career-high 28 points on 13-of-15 shooting along with 10 rebounds and four steals while Hanley nabbed 10 points and 13 rebounds including nine on the offensive end.  Scott fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 19 points and nine boards.Â
Nicholas Filippi and
Steven Dolgos each added 10 points and
Trayshaun Hymes chipped in five points.
The Lazers return to action at 3 p.m. on Sunday and will face Fulton-Montgomery Community College in a Region III matchup in Allyn Hall.
