The Onondaga Community College volleyball team picked up a win on Saturday as the Lazers went 1-2 at the Jefferson Community College POD in Watertown. The Lazers began the day with a straight-set win over Erie before falling in similar fashion to Niagara County and Jamestown, respectively.
At the conclusion of play, Onondaga edged its season record to 22-13 with the decisions.
MATCH ONE: Onondaga: 3, Erie: 0 After posting a 25-16 win in the opening set, the Lazers would orchestrate a five-point comeback in the second frame after falling behind 14-19 to the Kats. Strong hitting and defense kept Onondaga within striking distance allowing them to eventually reclaim the lead en route to a 25-21 win and a two set lead.
With momentum on its side, Onondaga would sprint out to a large lead in the deciding set before putting the Kats away, 25-13.
Najah Amica led Onondaga with a team-high nine kills to go along with four blocks.
Isabella Winklestine clubbed seven kills in the win while
Melissa Krak had four kills and six digs.
Sydney Burritt collected 12 digs and
Jessica Cost produced 21 assists for Onondaga.
MATCH TWO: Onondaga: 0, Niagara County: 3 The Lazers weren't able to duplicate an early season win over the Thunder Wolves on Saturday as Onondaga fell in straight-sets to Niagara County.
Burritt led the attack for Onondaga with four kills to go along with nine digs and a block. Cost tallied a double-double with 12 helpers and 10 digs while
Leslie Santos collected a team-high 13 digs in the loss.
MATCH THREE: Onondaga: 0, Jamestown: 3 The Lazers weren't able to generate much offense against the Jayhawks, as Onondaga fell in straight-sets, 15-25, 13-25, 21-25.
Winklestine chipped in with four kills for Onondaga while Krak also tallied four smahes along with four digs. Cost had a team-high seven digs and 12 assists.
Meaghan O'Toole produced three digs and Amica collected five digs.
Onondaga will wrap up its regular season at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and will host Elmira College's Junior Varsity team in Allyn Hall. The Lazers will honor their outstanding sophomore class before the game.
