Kelly Seibt (‘11) took over the program in the 2021-22 season. The former Lazer assumed the head coaching role at her alma mater after serving as an assistant coach with the program for seven seasons.
After the 2020-21 season was canceled due to the COVID pandemic, Seibt and the Lazers came back in 2021-22 with a 25-4 record, including a 21-0 record in Region III play and a 12-0 record in Mid State Athletic Conference play. Seibt led the team to the NJCAA Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota after earning an automatic bid, clinching the Region III title. The team made it to the Elite 8 before falling to eventual the National Runner-Up. In 2021-22, Seibt coached first-team All-American, Region III Player of the Year, and MSAC Player of the Year, Macey DeOrdio (‘23), Region III second-team and MSAC All-Conference, Hannah Durand (‘23), and Region III third-team, Zhane Holmes (‘23). She was also named the 2021-22 Region III Coach of the Year and the 2021-22 MSAC Coach of the Year.
In 2022-23, Seibt led the team back to the NJCAA Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota this time with an at-large bid. This was only the second time in program history that the team went to the big dance in back-to-back seasons. The team compiled a 17-9 record after making it to the Region III final for a third-consecutive season. In 2022-23, Seibt coached third-team All-American, Region III first-team, and MSAC Player of the Year, Hannah Durand (‘23), Region III first-team and MSAC All-Conference, Macey DeOrdio (‘23), Region III second-team and MSAC All-Conference, Zhane Holmes (‘23), and MSAC All-Conference, Ryleigh Endres (‘24).
Seibt (formally Kelly Grinnell) is a 2009 Auburn High School graduate. As a Maroon, she played 4 years on the varsity basketball team and served as a captain for 3 years. In her senior year she joined the 1,000 point club and ended her high school career with 1,197 points, making her the 4th highest scoring player in Auburn Girls Basketball history. She also earned honorable mention, second team, and first team CNYCL American honors from 2007-2009 respectively. In addition to basketball, she was also a member of the Auburn Varsity Softball team for 4 seasons from 2006-2009 and served as a captain for 2 years. She earned second team and first team CNYCL American honors in 2008 and 2009 respectively. In summer of 2008, she was a member of the Central girl’s basketball team at the Empire State Games, winning a silver medal.
In 2009 she attended Roberts Wesleyan, where she was a starter on the women’s basketball team and earned a spot on the American Mideast Conference All-Freshman Team. The year following, she transferred to Onondaga Community College where she played her sophomore season under head coach Mike Wheeler. As a player for the Lazers, she helped the team win a Mid-State Athletic Conference championship, and runner up in the Region III tournament finishing the season with a record of 29-3. She completed her associate degree in Exercise Science at OCC. Seibt then transferred onto SUNY Brockport and played on the women’s basketball team her junior and senior seasons (2011-2013), where she started every game and scored over 300 points as a Golden Eagle. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology in 2013.
In 2014 she made it back to Onondaga hill when she was named an assistant coach for her alma mater. She helped guide the women’s basketball team to a 160-35 record, including 5 Mid-State Athletic Conference championships and 1 Region III championship. Aside from her coaching duties, Coach Seibt was also the OCC Women’s Basketball summer camp director where she ran a week long camp every summer for kids aged 7-17 for 6 years. At the helm, Seibt has compiled a 42-13 record.
Coach Seibt coached in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) for the Syracuse Nets from 2013 to 2019 and also coached a youth organization in Cayuga County (K-8th) from 2013 to 2015.
She currently works on main campus at OCC in the Financial Aid Department as a Financial Aid Tech Specialist. She and her husband Brandon Seibt, OCC Men’s Basketball alum (‘12), reside in Auburn, NY with their daughter, Lileigh, and their two dogs, Sophie and Hope.
