Nick Gatto was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in July of 2014. In this role, he is responsible for running the departments game/event management for all on-campus events, facility operations and intramural programming. Nick is also responsible for the department’s internship program and mentoring undergraduates who are majoring in Sport Management. Nick has played an immense role in creating the Onondaga Lazer’s Athletic Golf Tournament, one of the biggest fundraisers for the athletic department. He has also formed the Onondaga Speaker Series, which brings motivational and educational speakers onto campus to speak to student-athletes covering a wide range of topics including substance abuse, mental health and sexual assault. Nick has been successful in bringing in speakers such as Chris Herren and Jordan Burnham. He is also responsible for coordinating all of the department’s athletic camps and club sports.
Before Nick’s roll as the Assistant Athletic Director he served as the Program Coordinator for three years within Onondaga’s Athletic Department. He has also served as an assistant coach for the men’s lacrosse team from 2008-2018. As the offensive coordinator Nick has helped guide the Lazers to ten out of the team’s eleven national championships. Nick was a part of the Lazers lacrosse team in 2006 where he led the team to their first national championship in the team’s history. Due to this victorious feat, the entire 2006 team became members of the Onondaga Community College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. Nick is also an inductee of the 2016 National Junior College Athletic Association Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Before Nick’s tenure in the athletic department, he worked for five years in the office of Testing Services at Onondaga where he administered the college placement test to all incoming freshman.
Nick was a two-year member of the men’s lacrosse team at Onondaga and still holds records on the all-time scoring list. In 2006, he was named a first team All-American and the National Offensive Player of The Year. After his two years at Onondaga, he transferred to Le Moyne College where he continued his playing career and where he won the 2007 Division II National Championship. Nick was once again named an All-American in 2008.
Nick is a native of Syracuse and holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Onondaga Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Le Moyne College and a Master of Science in Sport Management from SUNY Cortland.
Nick resides in Camillus with his wife Brittany and son Killan.
