Biography
At Onondaga: Vaughndell played in all 29 games as a freshman, with 26 starts, and led the Lazers with 14.6 points per game. He was twice named the NJCAA Region 3 Male Athlete of the Week. He scored in double figures 22 times, with a career best 33 points in a win over Jamestown-Cattaraugus. He dropped in 32 points in a win at Corning, and again in the Lazers’ regional 1st round contest at Finger Lakes. He also scored 27 points, including a season best 6 3-point goals, in a win over Columbia-Greene. Vaughndell hit 21 points twice, in a win at Jefferson and in the Lazers’ conference quarter-final at Corning. On the season, his 61 made 3-point goals were second best on the team and 32nd nationally, and his 99 made free throws topped the Lazers and ranked 45th in the country.
Background: Vaughndell played for Coach John Haas at Cicero-North Syracuse. He was a three-year varsity performer for CNS, during which time the Northstars amassed a 52-10 record and captured the school’s first Section III championship. As a senior he averaged a team best 13.8 points per game. Brantley was a 13th team Class AA All-State selection and a 1st team All-CNYCL selection, and was named to the All-Central New York team by The Post-Standard. He was also a two-sport standout, as he competed as a wide receiver and defensive back on the CNS football team.
