John Sheedy has served as Head Baseball Coach since August 2014. He has accumulated an overall record of 90-54, two Mid-State Athletic Conference Championships, and Conference Coach of the Year recognition in 2017 after his second 30+ win season.
In three seasons, Coach Sheedy has guided five players to All-NJCAA Region III recognition and ten players to All-Conference recognition.
A proven leader and long-time advocate for the advancement of student-athletes' educational goals, Sheedy brings over 25 years of coaching experience to Onondaga, most recently serving as head coach and co-owner of the CNY Thunder, one of the region’s premier instructional and travel baseball organizations.
During his tenure with the Thunder, Sheedy has worked alongside athletes aged 13-19 throughout Central New York, the Southern Tier and Pennsylvania to further develop their skills and enhance team participation through training and tournament play, while also emphasizing the importance of game fundamentals, preparation for play at the collegiate level and an understanding of sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership.
“The network and connections John has built over the last eight years as President of CNY Thunder will help our student-athletes maximize their ability to continue their education and playing careers at four-year institutions,” said Onondaga Director of Athletics, Michael Borsz.
Sheedy guided the CNY Thunder Americans (U19) team to back-to-back championships at the 2012 and 2013 Beast of the East Tournament and also coached the 2012 team to a title at the Darien Lake Series in Buffalo.
He was an active member of the Jamesville-Dewitt Youth Athletic Association, serving as President from 2006-2010, where he oversaw the athletic initiatives of over 1,000 local youths. Sheedy has also served as head coach for the Jamesville Dewitt Little League and the Merrimack Valley Men’s Baseball League where he helped lead the team to a league title.
A 1988 graduate of Boston College with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Sheedy captained the men’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams to a New England Championship in his junior year.
