Sanborn, NY - Onondaga Baseball completed the series with SUNY Niagara on Thursday on the road, taking a 7-6 win in game one.
Jesse DeMaintenon (Canastota, NY / Canastota HS) led things on the mound, pitching a complete game tallying 9 strikeouts. The Sophomore pitched 5 scoreless innings against the Thunderwolves.
The Lazers were first on the board in the 1st inning after
Anthony Sawanec (Westmoreland, NY / Westmoreland HS) drew a walk before
Cooper Brogan (Sloatsburg, NY / Suffern HS) got on due to an error that scored Sawanec. Putting two more on in the 2nd,
Jack Bushnell (Fairport, NY / Fairport HS) recorded a single before three straight walks, forcing him in.
Ryan Campbell (Syracuse, NY / Westhill HS) tallied an RBI on a sacrifice fly to score
Mike Ferranti (Endicott, NY / Union Endicott HS). The Thunderwolves responded with a 5-run inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Luis Suarez (Syracuse, NY / West Genesee HS) sparked a rally in the 5th drawing a walk and scored off a
Luke Pickett (Aurora, OH / Westhill HS) line drive to center field that also scored Brogan. Pickett scored on a ground ball hit by Bushnell to lead 6-5. DeMaintenon got the Lazers out of a huge bottom of the inning after the Thunderwolves put two runners on with one out.
Niagara put one on in the bottom of the 6th, tying it 6-6.
Carter King (Cicero, NY / Cicero North Syracuse HS) reached in the top of the 7th on a fly ball to left field and advanced to second on a passed ball and third on a Ferranti bunt. Sawanec hit the ground ball to score King for the go ahead run. After the Thunderwolves loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning, a 6-4-3 double play ended the game with the Lazers victorious, 7-6.
