Baseball Splits with Erie on Sophomore Day

Syracuse, NY - Onondaga Baseball hosted Erie Community College on Sunday. A split sent the Lazers to 17-15 on the season.

Ryan Campbell (Syracuse, NY / Westhill HS) got the start for OCC on the mound in game 1.

Erie put two on off two RBI doubles in the top of the 1st inning. 

Carter King (Cicero, NY / Cicero North Syracuse HS) tallied an RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd to score Luis Suarez (Syracuse, NY / West Genesee HS). A Jack Bushnell (Faiport, NY / Faiport HS) bunt forced an Erie error to follow, scoring Anthony Sawanec (Westmoreland, NY / Westmoreland HS) to tie things up 2-2. Mike Ferranti (Endicott, NY / Union Endicott HS) recorded an in the park homerun to score himself and Bushnell to lead 4-2.

With runners on the corners, Bushnell drew a pickle on first base allowing Cooper Brogan (Sloatsburg, NY / Suffern HS) to reach home and lead 5-2 in the bottom of the 4th.

Suarez crushed a deep fly ball over the right field fence to score two and lead 7-2 in the bottom of the 5th. A hard hit ball by Ferranti allowed two more OCC runs to score.

Sawanec tallied an RBI in the bottom of the 6th on a deep fly ball to left field. Suarez reached home on a fielder's choice hit by Brogan making it 11-2.

Chase Koenig (Oriskany, NY / Oriskany HS) got the start on the mound in game 2. The Kats led off with three runs in the top of the 1st and another in the top of the 2nd.

Suarez tallied an RBI in the bottom of the 5th and Jordan Cole (Dewitt, NY / Jamesville Dewitt HS) recorded one for himself in the bottom of the 6th, but the Lazers came up short falling 2-4 in game 2.
