Syracuse, NY - No. 2 Onondaga hosted the No. 5 Howard Dragons on Wilbur Field Sunday afternoon. The Lazers came up short in the 4th quarter suffering a 18-13 loss to the Dragons, moving to 2-1.
Takaronhiotakie Thompson (Akwasasne, NY / Massena HS) and
Richard Martinez (Walkill, NY / Walkill HS) put Onondaga first on the board up 2-0. The Dragons responded with three straight to take the lead with 4:47 to go in the 1st before
Dominick Terrazzano (Billerica, MA / Billerica HS) and
Peter Resnick (Latham, NY / Shaker HS) each netted one to go up 4-3. The Dragons responded right back with two to lead 5-4 at the start of the 2nd quarter.
The back and forth continued in the 2nd with Thompson starting things off netting his second of the game.
Trysen Sunday (Akwasasne, NY / Massena HS / The Hill Academy) tied things 7-7 with 4 minutes to go in the half before the Dragons put in two to lead 9-7 at the break.
Onondaga came out firing scoring three straight on three man up opportunities. After one from Howard, the score sat at 10-10 for nine minutes until the Dragons put one in to end the quarter and lead 11-10.
Davin Bomberry (Six Nations, ON / The Hill Academy) tied it 11-11 to start the 4th on an assist from Sunday, followed by Resnick to take a 12-11 lead. After a Howard response to tie, Sunday gave the Lazers their final lead of the game at 8:33 before Howard went on to put in 6 unanswered goals to claim the victory, 18-13.
Bomberry and Sunday each tallied 3 a piece.
