Syracuse, NY - Onondaga Men's Basketball hosted Genesee Community College Saturday afternoon in Allyn Hall. The two teams previously met in the Lazers' first conference match of the season in early November, where OCC took home the victory with a bucket in the final five seconds. The Lazers suffered the loss this weekend to the Cougars, 88-96.
Malachi Wilson (Brooklyn, NY / Thomas Jefferson HS)Â led all scorers with a season high 30 points.
Siyani Arthur (Brooklyn, NY / Brooklyn Law & Technology) recorded his first season double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lazers shot a collective 42.3% from the field, 32.1% from the arc, and 79.2% from the freethrow line. OCC outrebounded 44-35.
The two went toe to toe with three lead changes in the first half. The Cougars started to pull ahead, leading by 14 with just under seven minutes remaining in the half, responded by Arthur with 5 unanswered points to keep the Cougars within reach. Genesee had the edge at the break leading 48-39.
OCC brought it within 3 points two separate times in the second half, to which the Cougars responded, never surrendering the lead in the second half. A
Brian Whitley (Geneva, NY / Geneva HS) jumper gave the Lazers the final chance with 1:25 to bring it within 6, but freethrows extended the Cougars' lead as time expired. OCC committed 15 team fouls in the second half versus Genesee's 98, to which the Cougars converted to 20 points from the line.Â
