Syracuse, NY - The Men's and Women's Wrestling Scheduled has been announced for the 2025-26 season.
The teams will host two meets this season. The NYS Collegiate Wrestling Championship will be hosed by the Lazers and held in the SRC Arena on Saturday, November 22nd, attended by wrestlers from 20+ 2-year and 4-year colleges in New York State. The Lazers will also host a dual meet in Allyn Hall on December 13th with Lackawanna College.
"I am excited to be heading into our second year. We went from being a team full of freshmen last year to now, bringing back a great group of returners from last year as well as added in some massively talented transfers that will be spending their second year in a college wrestling room. We spent last year competing with no 125 or 285lb wrestlers, and those holes are now plugged. It is very exciting to have athletes that are wanting to get better at wrestling and compete for a national title this year. I truly believe we have the potential for a Division III National title this year on the team. We have
Enver Bulatov, our national qualifier from last year, as well as other starters, like
Marek Sokolowski,
Luis Rivera, and
Charlie Caputo returning who all won their fair share of matches last year and are hungry to make it to nationals this year. We also brought in hammers like Jacob Garrow, Trey Latham, Charlie Foster, Matt Dougherty and Vandavian Way who are looking to be a part of OCC's first group of NJCAA All-Americans. There's no doubt that their veteran presence on the mat will help lead the way to success. We also have freshmen that are looking to make a splash as well. You will get used to seeing the names of Michael Boyhan, Peyton Spencer, Tysun Gilliard, Qudir Lloyd, Ben Mann, Darik and Travis Soucia, and Jordyn Hill, who have all been working hard this offseason to get better on the wrestling mat.Â
On the women's side, there's a lot to be excited about as well. We have our veteran redshirt sophomore back on the mats this year,
Deanna Williamson and have added in some young support. We have also added a women's assistant coach, Sophia Pellanz, to help recruit for the future and help sharpen these girls' freestyle skills as work to compete to be All-Americans by the end of the year. Our notable incoming freshmen currently include Carmalee Vasquez and Lilykate Brosnan with a couple others currently working to get in by the spring semester. Although a small team, everyone's current skills are very unique to themselves, and all will learn a lot wrestling each other this year."
Head Coach, Zach Gifford
The National Championship will return to Coucil Bluffs, IA in early March.
