Syracuse, NY - Baseball hosted Corning Community College on their home turf taking two wins over the Red Barons.
Sam Gallager started on the mound for the Lazers in game 1. Gallager ended the inning quick grabbing a strikeout and a pair of groundouts looking to get things started on offense. Getting things started was
Mike Ferranti, leading off reaching first on an error and quickly advancing to second on a stolen base.
Luis Suarez followed him on a walk, and
Colin White loaded up the bases on a single through the infield. Two consecutive walks and a wild pitch brought in the Lazers' first three runs.
Three straight groundouts for Gallager to start the 2nd inning got to the Lazers quickly to put up a few more run in the bottom of the inning. The Lazers batted around in the bottom of the 2nd with two walks to start.
Joe Adamo made his way around with two stolen bases and scored on a Corning error to put up another run for the Lazers.
Colin White smoked one to deep left field to score Ferranti. The hits kept on coming with two RBI singles to follow from
Ryan Campbell and
Carter King. Multiple Corning errors allowed two more runs with two outs, bringing in a new Corning pitcher. With aggressive baserunning,
Anthony Sawanec scored the Lazers' 10th run to cap off the inning.
Gallager grabbed two quick groundouts in the top of the 3rd, but allowed the First Red Baron hit of the day on a ground ball up the middle with two outs. The runner was stranded with a strikeout to end the top of the 3rd. Ferranti led off the bottom of the inning with a base hit up the middle, moved over to third by Suarez, and scored by
Colin White on a sacrifice fly to lead 11-0.
Frank Sgroi came to the mound for Onondaga in the top of the 4th. The Red Barons manufactured three baserunners to load up the bases with one out. Sgroi retired both batters to end the inning with two strikeouts, three runners left on, and no damage done. A quick bottom of the 4th for the Lazers led to their potential final defensive inning with an 11-run lead.
The Lazers defended in the top of the 5th, shutting out the Red Barons in 5 innings in game 1, 11-0.
Carter Stewart started on the bump in game 2. A Lazer error in the first inning allowed the first Corning run of the day. The Lazers responded in the bottom of the inning.
Mike Ferranti scored on a wild pitch.
Kevin Stewart reached on a base hit and was scored by
Cooper Brogan. Onondaga led in the bottom of the 1st 3-1.
A quick 1-2-3 for
Carter Stewart in the top of the 2nd got to more at bats for the Lazers.
Colin White put one over the fence for a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning. Timely hits scored 4 in the inning for the Lazers to lead 7-1.
Stewart grabbed himself three strikeouts to end the top of the 3rd. The Lazers were scoreless in the bottom of the 3rd with Nick Perotta stranded on second after a single and stolen base.
A quick top of the 4th with two strikeouts for Stewart kept the score 7-1. Ferranti stole home in the bottom of the 4th for the Lazers' only run in the inning to lead 8-1.
A 1-2-3 inning with a diving catch in right field from
Jeff Ralabate kept the Lazers' lead.
Cooper Brogan led off the inning with a triple, bringing in a new Corning pitcher. Brogan scored the Lazers' 9th run on a passed ball.
The Red Barons loaded up the bases in the top of the 6th with one out. Stewart grabbed two strikeouts, stranding three runners to prevent any damage before heading into the bottom of the inning.
Noah Umstead poked an RBI double in the bottom of the 6th with 1 out and bringing the Lazers one run away from ending the game in 6 innings. It was
Nick Perrotta with the sacrifice fly that put the Lazers up 10 runs in the 6th inning to end the game, 11-1 and the second victory of the day.
The Lazers are on the road for two more games against Corning to complete the series.
