Lazers Fall to Hudson Valley Vikings at Home

Syracuse, NY - Onondaga Softball hosted Hudson Valley Community College in a doubleheader on their home turf.

Sydney Puttkamer started on the mound in game 1. A single and two walks loaded up the bases in the 1st inning for the Vikings. With two outs, back to back wild pitches from Puttkamer in heavy rain scored two runs. A pop fly dropping in foul territory scored another run for the Vikings in the top of the 1st. The Lazers stranded two runners on base in the bottom of the inning after a walk and an Erin LaVancha single.

A double and strikeout started the 2nd inning until lightning in the area led to a weather delay. The inning resumed with the Lazers grabbing out number two on a ground ball and runners advancing to second and third. A fly out ended the top of the inning with no harm done for the Lazers. A quick three outs in the bottom of the inning had Onondaga still trailing 3-0.

A single and double put Vikings runners on in the 3rd. A wild pitch found them run number 4. Back to back walks loaded up the bases for the Vikings with no outs. Making contact, the Vikings strung together 5 runs in the 3rd. Ava Falvo led off with a bunt beating out the throw for a single before stealing second base. Falvo was the only baserunner of the inning followed by three outs still scoreless and trailing by 8 runs.

A two run double in the top of the 4th with two outs extended the Vikings' lead, bringing Kennedy Nash to the mound and ending the inning. triple, lily rbi single, Erin LaVancha started off the inning legging out a triple. It was Lily Stevens who knocked her in for an RBI single, scoring the Lazers' first and headed to the 5th, 10-1.

The Vikings loaded up the bases in the top of the inning, forcing in a run on a hit by pitch. Grace Hoey came to the mound for the Lazers before two walks forced in two runs. An RBI single capped off the 4-run inning. The Lazers manufactured 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th, but it wasn't enough with the Vikings taking game 1, 14-6, in 5 innings. Lily Stvens had 2 RBIs in game 1. Erin LaVancha and Ava Falvo each had 2 hits.

The teams took the field in game 2 for one inning before the game was called due to weather.

Onondaga will travel to Genesee Community College on Thursday, April 17th with a 2pm start with the Cougars.
