Lazers Grab Two Over Jamestown

Syracuse, NY - The Lazers hosted Jamestown Community College for a region 3 doubleheader with the Jayhawks.

Matt Krul started on mound for the Lazers kicking things off with two strikeouts and a groundout. A Luis Suarez double was the lone hit in the bottom of the inning resulting in a 0-0 score headed into the 2nd.

A double for the Jayhawks with two outs putting a runner in scoring position. But Krul stranded him with a strikeout to end the top of the 2nd. Jara Carlos Jara led off with a single moved over to second on a Carter King sacrifice bunt, Jara was stranded on third after a fly out to end the inning, still scoreless.

The Lazers got the first out of the inning on a pop fly causing a collision, bringing in Dante Santos to right field. A strikeout and popout followed to end the top of the 2nd. A 1-2-3 bottom of the inning followed. 

Three strikeouts for Krul had the Jayhawks still scoreless in the 4th inning. Ryan Campbell moved Colin White over to third on a sac bunt after White reached on an error to start the inning. Jara smoked one up the middle to score White for the first run of the game. 

The Lazers held onto their lead in the top of the 5th holding the Jayhawks still scoreless after an error to start the inning. Nick Perrotta led off the inning with a single, but was thrown out trying to advance on an overthrow. Two outs to follow led to the Lazers still leading 1-0.

A quick 1-2-3 got to the Lazers to try to score a few insurance runs. Ferranti led off reaching second on a Jamestown error. Colin White followed on an intentional walk. A Ryan Campbell sac fly pushed Ferranti over to third with two outs. Jara smoked another one for his second RBI of the day poking in Ferranti and moving White over to third. White was thrown out at home to end the inning trying to grab another for the Lazers. But Onondaga led 2-0 with just 3 outs remaining for a win in game 1.

Two fly outs to Perrotta in left field grabbed the Lazers' their first two outs. A popout to Jara secured the win in game 1 for Onondaga. Jara had 3 hits and 2 RBIs in game 1.

Jesse DeMaintenon started on the bump for the Lazers in game 2 grabbing two strikeouts and a fly out in the first inning. Two singles started the bottom of the 1st for Ferranti and Suarez. Stolen bases advanced the two to scoring position. The Jayhawks held off any Lazer runs stranding the two runners on base.

Two strikeouts for DeMaintenon and a groundout in the top of the 3rd had the Jayhawks still scoreless. Ferranti led off the inning with a single, followed by a Suarez single to knock Ferranti over to third looking for the Lazers' run. A Ryan Campbell walk loaded up the bases with one out. The Lazers walked away scoreless in the inning with a Jamestown double play to end the inning.

Two more strikeouts and a fly out for DeMaintenon in the top of the 4th shut out the Jayhawks in another inning. Kevin Stewart led off the bottom of the inning with a single through the 5-6 hole. It was Cooper Brogan to poke in the Stewart for the Lazers first run with a single through the infield. A Ferranti bunt put runners on first and second followed by another RBI in the inning from Suarez to lead 2-0. 

The Lazers held onto their lead in the 5th with two more strikeouts and a groundout. Two Lazer baserunners were left stranded in scoring position in the bottom of the inning, still leading 2-0.

The Lazer defense came in clutch in the top of the 6th in danger of the Jayhawks scoring their first run of the day. The Lazers continued to lead 2-0 into the bottom of the 6th with a chance to score a few more. Ferranti led off with a single. Luis Suarez legged out a triple after Ferranti was thrown out stealing third. Dante Santos pinch ran for Suarez stealing home for what would be the Lazers' winning run.. 

Two singles and a walk to start the top of the 7th brought Connor Eastwood to the mound to close things out. The Jayhawks scored their first run on a ground ball, giving the Lazers their first out on a fielder's choice. Another fielder's choice or out number two earned the Jayhawks their second run. With the tying run on first, a popout was the third out and ended the game with a 3-2 victory for OCC. Ferranti went 4-4 in game 2. Suarez went 3-4 with an RBI.
