Batavia, NY - Onondaga Women's Basketball traveled to Genesee Community College for their season opener. The MSAC matchup resulted in a 76-44 win for the Lazers.
Onondaga outscored the Cougars by eight or more in the first three quarters of the game, establishing a big lead early on that was never relinquished. Defensive pressure caused eleven Cougar turnovers in the first quarter, to which the Lazers converted to thirteen points.
Mary Hamer, the Sophomore from Belfast High School, put up eight points in the first quarter and grabbed two steals.
Onondaga's depth came into play in the second quarter with nine bench points from Sophomore from Liverpool High School, Giselle Allen-Cruz and Freshman
Tamia Gonzalez out of Brooklyn, NY. The Lazers kept on the defensive pressure causing eleven more Genesee turnovers for a total of twenty-two in the first half.
The Lazers kept up the energy to start the second half outscoring the Cougars 21-11 in the third quarter. New York, NY Freshman
Morgan Vasquez led the way in the third putting up six points and grabbing two rebounds and a steal. The Lazers capped off the win with twelve points in the fourth quarter for a 76-44 victory.
Allen-Cruz led all scorers with fifteen points followed by Hamer with twelve and six rebounds. Vasquez, Gonzalez, and Sophomore
Amiya Johnson each added ten.
Onondaga will host the Lazer Tip-Off Classic on the floor of the SRC Arena this Saturday and Sunday, November 8th and 9th where the Lazers will take on the Community College of Rhode Island and Kingsborough Community College.
