Syracuse, NY - Onondaga hosted a doubleheader with the Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves this weekend. The Lazers had a strong showing against the strong Niagara program but falling short 1-7Â in game 1 and 5-8 in game 2.
Wyatt Braun started game 1 for the Lazers on the mound. Braun had a strong showing with two shutout innings and 7 strikeouts. Niagara earned their first run in the 3rd inning off a Lazer error.
Jason Aguonie took over on the mound in the 4th inning when the Thunderwolves began to find their offensive groove and scoring 3 in the 4th.
Jake Khouri put up the Lazers put up their first run in the 4th off an RBI from
Matt Carner. Aguonie shut out the Timberwolves in the 5th keeping it 4-1.
Jared Harmon entered in the 6th, holding Niagara scoreless giving the Lazers an opportunity. Unable to string together runs, the Lazers took the loss in game 1.Â
Matt Carner started game 2 on the bump shutting out the Thunderwolves in the first 2 innings solid defensive players behind him. The Lazers made solid contact off the Niagara pitcher right at the defense. The first base hit of the game went to Niagara in the 3rd inning. A grand slam put the Thunderwolves up 4-0. The Lazers answered in the 4th with a 5-run inning to take the lead with RBIs from
Ray Moreno,
Jake Khouri, and a base clearing double from
Colin White. A 1-2-3 defensive inning for OCC in the 5th inning brought their lead into the 6th. Loading up the bases, walking in the tying run, and an RBI double earned Niagara back the lead and brought
Carter King to the mound for the Lazers in the top of the 7th where Niagar earned an insurance run on a hit by putch with bases loaded. A scoreless bottom of the 7th for OCC resulted in a 5-7 loss to the Thunderwolves.
Onondaga will travel to Corning Community College today for a 2pm doubleheader.
