Syracuse, NY - The infamous rivalry between the Onondaga Lazers and the Nassau Lions took place on Wilbur Field this past Saturday after a 1-1 start to the season for OCC. The teams met in last year's National semifinal game where the Lions ended the Lazers' season suffering an 8-10 loss. The game kicked off at 12pm on the windy Onondaga Hill. After a hard fought back and forth battle between the two, the Lazers left the field with a similar 9-10 defeat.
The Lazers came out to their home field hot with a 2-0 start over the Lions scoring man up in the first two minutes. The long back and forth game would include 6 ties and 3 lead changes until the final few minutes remaining. After
Teharonhiorens McComber's 2nd goal of the day in th 4th quarter, the Lazers had a 9-8 lead with 2:19 on the clock. A Lazer turnover with 47.7 seconds remaining resulted in a Nassau goal and a 9-9 tie score. Another faceoff win for Nassau gave the Lions possession and the 10-9 edge with 12.2 on the clock which wouldn't be enough for the Lazers to recover.Â
Tehokwirathe Barreiro had 5 goals on the day. Barreiro already leads the Lazers with 14 goals in the first week of the season.
The Lazers have a 1-2 start to the season after another 1-goal loss in their season opener against Army Prep and a dominant 25-5 win over the Herkimer Generals.
The Lazers will travel to Hudson Valley Community College this Wednesday, March 13th for a 5pm game against the Vikings.
