Syracuse, NY - Women's Basketball was titled Mid-State Athletic Conference Tournament Champions for the 2023-24 season after hosting the first MSAC Tournament since the 2016-17 season. The women once again showing dominance defeating Corning Community College in the semifinal round on Friday night, 89-28, and took on the Region III leaders, Jefferson Community College for the Championship with a 78-50 victory.
The Lazers had the late game on Friday night with a packed house for the semifinal round against Corning. The Lazers wasted no time securing a hefty lead outscoring the Red Barons in the first quarter 36-9. The dominance continued in the remaining quarters with a 89-28 victory for the Lazers and advancing to the Championship.
Mallory Brooks went 5-10 from three leading the Lazers with 15 points.Â
Saturday took off at 1pm for the expected matchup between the Lazers and the Cannoneers. Each team had been each other's only conference loss all season. The two teams battled in the first quarter resulting in a scoring edge for the Lazers at 18-12. With the home court advantage, the Lazers gained serious momentum taking a substantial 39-25 lead over the Cannoneers at halftime. The hot streak remained for the Lazers in the second half running away with the Championship plaque in sight. The win was nothing short of a team earned victory shooting a collaborative 39% from three and 27 points from the Onondaga bench.
Cianna Papineau led with a career high 26 points and earning herself Tournament Most Valuable Player.

The Lazers move to a 25-2 overall record after the weekend putting them in an excellent spot headed to the Region III Tournament this coming weekend. Onondaga will take on North Country Community College in the quarter final round of the tournament at 1pm on Friday, March 1st. The tournament will be hosted by Jefferson Community College in Watertown, NY.
